The Eighty-eighth Amendment of the Constitution of India, officially known as The Constitution (Eighty-eighth Amendment) Act, 2003, enables the Union Government and State Governments to levy and collect taxes on services, and appropriate the revenue in accordance with such principles of collection and appropriation as may be formulated by Parliament by law. Section 1 of the 88th Amendment stated that the Act would come into force "on such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint". The Amendment Bill received assent from the President on 15 January 2004. However, as of 2011, no date for its commencement has been fixed by the Central Government. ==Text==
